Social Democratic Party (SDP) |
The Social Democratic Party (SDP) was a minor political party in the Commonwealth of the Bahamas.
Several years after the formation of the Bahamas Democratic Party (BDP), Norman Solomon advised the BDP that he had formed the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and that his Members of Parliament (MPs), the majority in Opposition, would support him to become the Leader of the Opposition. That left the Free National Movement (FNM) with only the two MPs from Grand Bahama in Parliament. Through the valiant efforts of Basil Nichols and Arthur Foulkes, a reunification of the BDP and the FNM was accomplished in time to contest the 1982 general elections as a unified opposition party. In the 1982 election, the FNM won 11 of the 43 seats in Parliament. |
