The provisions governing the conduct and procedure of national elections are principally found in the Belize Constitution and in the Representation of the People Act.
The Constitution contains general provisions regarding
the conduct and timing of elections, the establishment and
adjustment of electoral divisions, qualifications for election as
a member of the House of Representatives, and the rules governing
the Elections and Boundaries Commission.
The Representation of the People Act contains
detailed provisions regarding the conduct of elections and the
administration of the electoral system, including the franchise
and registration of voters, offences relating to the electoral
system, election-day procedures, the counting of votes and
ascertainment of election results, and procedures for the
petitioning of election results.
