James Barrymore 'Patsy' Springer

J. B. Patsy Springer was a Barbadian politician and former parliamentarian (1966-1976).

Early life

James Barrymore 'Patsy' Springer was the son of James Barrymore Springer Snr and Doris Springer. He was the brother of Ermie, Harry, and Michael Springer.

Career

J.B. Patsy Springer was a founding member of the Democratic Labour Party (DLP). In 1966 he was the senior DLP member for St. Michael under the double member constituency system. When Barbados adopted single member constituencies in the 1971 general election, he won the Michael South East seat for the DLP defeating Mencea Cox of the Barbados Labour Party and gaining 61.7% of the votes cast. Springer represented St Michael South East for one term from 1971 to 1976. He did not contest the 1976 election.

After quitting elective politics, he became a very popular and effective speaker on DLP platforms. He was also a popular race horse owner.

Springer was a director of Federal Bookmakers Limited and Chefette Restaurants. He also managed the once controversial West Indian Hospital Sweepstakes before it went out of business.

Personal life

Springe was married abd the father of two children.

Death

Springer died on 4 July 2015 in his mid-eighties.
