The Hon. Stanley Everton Reid
Former Deputy Governor of Anguilla

Stanley Everton Reid is the first locall engaged Deputy Governor of Anguilla.

Early life and education

Born in St Thomas, in the United States Virgin Islands, of Anguillian parents, Stanley Reid is second of four boys. He attended The Valley Primary and Secondary Schools, leaving the Secondary School in 1986, the year it became the Albena Lake Hodge Comprehensive School. 

Reid joined Her Majesty’s Customs and Excise as an assistant before becoming a teachers at the Comprehensive School.

Reid holds a Bachelor of Laws Degree with Upper Second Class Honours from the University of the West Indies at Cave Hill, Barbados (1991); the Legal Education Certificate from the Hugh Wooding Law School in St. Augustine, Trinidad; and a Master of Laws Degree under the External Programme of the University of London.

Career

Upon completing his studies, Reid returned to Anguilla to work in the Attorney General’s Chambers. He worked as Crown Council between 1993 and 1998 and was appointed Senior Crown Council in 1998, a post he held until 2003.  He advised the Government of Anguilla on the whole gamut of the law; civil matters, constitutional issues, contractual problems, as well as those of a criminal nature.

In October 2003 he was invited to be Permanent Secretary in Public Administration where he worked with Mark Capes, the then Deputy Governor of Anguilla.

In July 2006, Reid became the first locally engaged Deputy Governor of Anguilla. As
Deputy Governor, he manages the public service.

Honours and awards

Reid wa the winner of the Thome de la Bastide Prize in Constitutional Law in 1989.

In 2004, he won the Anguilla Association of Office Professionals Executive of the Year Award

Personal life

Reid is married to Dawn, who was born in St Kitts of Anguillian parents. They have two children.
