Frank Pringle was a Jamaican diplomat, politician, and former Cabinet Minister.

Early life

Frank Pringle was born in 1930 in Jamaica.

Career

His long history of service to Jamaica dates to 1953 when Pringle was Aide de Camp to Governor Sir Hugh MacIntosh Foot.

Pringle served as a Government Senator and Minister of Tourism from 1989 to 1992 in the Michael Manley led People’s National Party (PNP) administration.
He was also a Member of the Jamaica Tourist Board, Director on the Board of Air Jamaica, as well as Jamaica's representative to the Executive Council of the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO).

Over the years, Ambassador Pringle has served as a diplomat, Justice of the Peace and a member of the Jamaica Parish Council. He was also the Founder and Director of The Tryall Club and founder and President of the Jamaica Association of Villas and Apartments. In addition, he was involved in the founding of Round Hill Hotel & Villas.

He was instrumental in the development of the internationally renowned Johnnie Walker Golf Tournament during the period 1995 – 2000, establishing Jamaica as a power house in the international golf circuit.

Keenly community-oriented, he is a Founder and Chairman of the Montego Bay Legal Aid Committee and is a long-standing Member of the Cavalry and Guards Club of London.

He was also a very active member of the PNP executive body and the National Executive Council (NEC).

Honours and awards

In 2014, he was conferred with the Order of Distinction in the Rank Commander for his outstanding contribution to Jamaica in diplomacy, political representation and philanthropy, and for his enduring love and nurturing of the Jamaican people, spanning over five decades.

In 2014, a sitting porch in the Golf Pavilion of the exclusive Tryall Club in Hanover was named in his honour.

In 2018, he was the recipient of the ‘Golden Souls of Tourism’ Award by the Ministry of Tourism.

Personal life

He was the father of daughter Kerstin.

Death

Pringle died at his Spring Farm, Rose Hall, St James home on 10 December 2018.  He was 88. He was accorded an Official Funeral on 26 January 2019 at the Half Moon Hotel Conference Centre in Rose Hall, Montego Bay, St James, Jamaica.
