The Hon. Phillip Joseph Pierre
Leader of the Opposition, Saint Lucia
Phillip Joseph Pierre is a Saint Lucian politician who represents Castries East constituency in the House of Assembly for the Saint Lucia Labour Party. He is also a former Cabinet Minister.
Early life and education
Pierre holds a Masters of Business Administration (MBA) degree.
Career
Pierre started his career as a Teacher at St. Mary's College from September 1972 to September 1973. He later served as Trainee Manager, J.Q. Charles Limited (1976 – 1978),; Audit Clerk, Coopers and Lybrand (1978 – 1984); Audit Senior, Panell Kerr Forster (1984 – 1988); and Financial Controller, Stanthur Company Limited (1988 – 1990). From 1985 to 1994 he was Director of the National Research and Development Corporation (NRDF). He then moved on to become Chief Executive of Philip J. Pierre Business Services Limited (Saint Lucia)from 1990 to 1997.
Pierre has been the parliamentary representative for the Castries East constituency since 1997 for the Saint Lucia Labour Party (SLP). He became Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure, Port Services and Transport in 2011.
Pierre was selected as Leader of the Opposition following the SLP loss at the 2016 general election. He was confirmed leader of the Labour Party on 18 June 2016.
