Senator The Hon. Mary Isella Isaac
Minister for Health and Wellness, Saint Lucia

Mary Isaac is a Saint Lucian politician, Senator, and Cabinet Minister.

Early life and education

Mary Isella Isaac was born in Saint Lucia and attended the Bexon Combined School  and later the Castries Comprehensive Secondary School.  She was adopted by her older sister, after both her parents died, when she was just a teenager.  She went on to live and study in Canada, attending the Bell High School in Nepean, Ontario. She holds dual citizenship of both Saint Lucia and Canada.
Isaac a graduate of the University of New Brunswick with first class Undergraduate Degrees in Business Administration and Education.  She later returned to Saint Lucia after marrying a Saint Lucian and worked with government for several years.  She returned to Canada and read for a Master's Degree in Business Administration from the University of New Brunswick.

Career

Isaac has spent most of her career in the civil service.  Her last posting being that of Chief Complaints and Investigation Officer, Department of Consumer Affairs, St. Lucia (2002 – 2013).

From 2009 – 2015 she served as President of the St. Lucia Civil Service Association (CSA).  During her tenure, efforts were made to curb wastage in the organization including overhauling of the accounting system to make it more transparent and to provide some level of accountability. The long awaited review of the CSA Constitution was finalized and the CSA's revised constitution was registered in October 2013. Much to the delight of the workers in the Private Sector, the Labour Code was also enacted during this time. She is also a former president of the Caribbean Consumer Council (CCC).

In 2015, Isaac replaced Lenard Montoute, as an opposition senator for the United Workers Party (UWP) in the Upper House of the Saint Lucia Parliament.

On 6 June 2016, Isaac was a first time general election candidate for the UWP.  She unsuccessfully contested the Castries South seat against Dr. Ernes Hilaire, receiving 50.49% of the vote but losing by 43 votes in a closely contested election.

On 14 June 2016, Isaac was appointed a Government Senator and Minister of Health and Wellness, following the success of the UWP at the 6 June 2016 general elections.

Personal life

Isaac has a nine year old daughter.
