Bermuda General Election
Results - 24 July 2003 |
General elections were held in Bermuda on 24 July 2003 for all 36 seats in the House of Assembly using a first-past-the-post system.
The 2003 election was the first under a new voting system with single-seat constituencies. The number of seats was also reduced from 40 to 36.
Political Parties & Candidates
A total of 75 candidates from four parties contested the election, with the United Bermuda Party (UBP) and the Progressive Labour Party (PLP) each presenting a full slate of 36 candidate; and the National Liberal Party (NLP) and Gombey Liberation Party each presenting one candidate. There was also one independent candidate.
Results
The result was a victory for the Jennifer Smith led Progressive Labour Party (PLP), which won 22 of the 36 seats in the House of Assembly. The United Bermuda Party (UBP), led by Grant Gibbons, won the remaining 14 seats.
