Bermuda General Election Results - 22 May 1968
Parliament Building, Bermuda

General elections were held in Bermuda on 22 May 1968 for all 40 seats in the House of Assembly using a first-past-the-post system. Each constituency returned two members to the House of Assembly.

Political Parties & Candidates

The elections were the first held under equal universal suffrage, as the additional vote for property owners used in the 1963 elections was scrapped, and the voting age lowered from 25 to 21. The Bermuda Demoicratic Party (BDP) lost the three seats it had previously held.

Results

The result was a victory for the United Bermuda Party (UBP), led by Henry Tucker, which won 30 of the 40 seats in  the House of Assembly. The Progressive Labour Party (PLP), led by Walter Robinson, won the 10 remaining seats.

On 10 June Henry Tucker became the territory's first Premier.
