General Election
Results - 4 March 1999 |
General elections were held in Turks and Caicos Islands on 4 March 1999.
There were 13 seats in 13 constituencies throughout the islands.
Two parties contested the election – Progressive National Party (PNP) and the People's Democratic Movement (PDM).
A total of 38 candidates contested the election. The two major parties each presented a full slate of 13 candidates. There were also 12 independent candidates.
The result was a second-term victory for the PDM winning 9 of 13 seats. The PNP won the remaining 4 seats. PDM leader Derek Taylor continued as the Chief Minister.
Voter turnout was 85.01%. |
